Lovely Melanie
I never met Melanie but I knew her through Alex and had a few email exchanges and conversations about her trip to Prague. Each time she wrote me or we spoke, she was warm and very pleasant. I truly feel that this is a tragedy for her husband, family and friends and I wish them well.
Yes, truly Lovely Melanie.... a beautiful brilliant light... this was stunningly evident upon my first and only blessed opportunity to meet her last month with a handful of email exchanges that followed. She attended our TranceDance in April and had intended to return this month. She was clearly a fearless truth-seeker who, as a dear friend put so well, "was clearly living with passion and died that way". I can only imagine that Melanie made a habit of "going into the fire" in all parts of her life, so going back in to save a friend must have seemed a natural way to respond. I am utterly inspired by her courage. I was bowled over by her vibrancy and the radiance she exuded through an infectious smile, a warm hug, and ebullient enthusiasm. All that I've read and heard about Melanie unsurprisingly confirms this profile. I was so looking forward to getting to know her and basking in her energy whenever possible. I can't begin to imagine how her passing is impacting those of you who knew her well. My heart goes out to each and every one of you holding you in Strength and Acceptance. I've been contemplating Melanie's gift to us since I learned of the news I received on Tuesday evening and what keeps resonating is the Inspiration and Courage to continue to live from a place of Passion, no matter what might seem to stand in the way; to fearlessly and boldly "go into the fire" when it calls you and seek out the burning Truth, the Inner Friend, no matter how scary it may seem to go in there - knowing full well that you couldn't live with yourself if you don't go in; and when your Truth is found, be a Melanie in Life and express it fully with pure abandon and exuberant Joy. In light of this tragic loss for our community of holistic practitioners and truth-seekers, I invite anyone reading this comment to light a candle in honor of Melanie's Courage and give pause in contemplation of how you might muster up the same Courage and go in where the Fire beckons and burns in your own Life. Thank you, Sweet Sister for this amazingly selfless Gift! May you rest Peacefully knowing you have touched us all so deeply that your Essence will remain at the Heart of our Community. Let's keep Melanie's spirit alive and well by dedicating compassionate actions on her behalf. Feel free to post your dedications here for everyone to share. Feel free to email me if you need to at alex@alexnason.com. Namaste - Alex
When I first met Melanie.
I first met Melanie a few years ago when my friend Julia Supple invited me to hear Bhagavan Das at The Laughing Lotus in New York. Julia had a ride, but her friend Melanie didn't. Melanie and I drove to the city in my VW Eurovan (Moon Unit) and proceeded to get stuck in two hours of traffic. By the time we got to New York the concert was half over, too full to get in, so we had dinner together, got to know each other and drove home! Over the years, we meditated together, practiced yoga, created meditation workshops, and attended Buddhist retreats. She had been cutting my hair for years... The last hug we gave each other was a truly great one - easily good enough to be "the last hug". Good enough to last forever. She was good at that. Namaste Melanie!
